Celebrating Judith Richardson’s Win: WBE Canada’s Advocate for Diverse Suppliers Award
Last week, Judith Richardson, Supplier Diversity Lead, was honored with the Advocate for Diverse Suppliers award from WBE Canada! This marks the debut year for this award category, making Judith’s recognition even more special.
“It was a complete surprise,” Judith shared. “I was beyond honored to be recognized for our work here at the Centre for Women in Business, particularly through the Advancing Supplier Diversity in Atlantic Canada Mentorship Program.”
While Judith’s hard work and passion earned her this award, she graciously credited the support system behind her success. “These awards don’t happen in isolation,” she noted. “I am grateful to the CWB team for this opportunity, with support from ACOA. As a former business owner, it’s so rewarding to now provide strategy, connections, and advocacy for diverse businesses. This project calls on every ounce of my experience and expertise!”
Judith also shared her deep admiration for the incredible entrepreneurs and partners she works with daily. “The business owners we support are innovative, strategic, and inspiring. They allow me to give the occasional ‘nudge’ as they grow and thrive. Our partners – from organizations to corporations committed to change – fuel our passion for driving impact.”
Key Milestones Behind the Award
Reflecting on what led to this recognition, Judith highlighted:
- Learning and Growing in Supplier Diversity: Immersing herself in the world of supplier diversity alongside fearless business owners who are committed to progress.
- Building Impactful Partnerships: Developing a robust training and mentorship program with WBE Canada and collaborating with other Certifying Councils to spotlight Atlantic Canada.
- Certifications and Growth: Supporting over 40 women-owned businesses across all four Atlantic provinces, helping them secure certifications, expand services, and create jobs.
- Supplier Diversity Days: Co-hosting events that connect hundreds of diverse suppliers with corporations eager to make meaningful connections.
Why does supplier diversity matter? “Supplier diversity is smart business – building resiliency in supply chains,” Judith emphasized. “Many corporations require it in their supply chains, extending to Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers. Diverse entrepreneurs bring unique lived experiences, fostering innovative thinking and exceptional problem-solving. These qualities consistently drive outstanding results.”
Beyond business success, supplier diversity creates significant social impact. When we spend $1 with diverse suppliers the community experiences a boost between $2 and $3 in job creation, tax generation, wealth building, and creating significant social impact.
And there’s a clear consumer demand: “People want to buy from inclusive businesses. It’s no longer just a ‘nice-to-have.’ Younger generations, in particular, are voting with their wallets.”
Judith’s work exemplifies the transformative power of supplier diversity, and her recognition is a testament to her commitment and expertise in Supplier Diversity and beyond. We’re so proud to celebrate this moment with her – congratulations, Judith!
