Celebrating Success: A Conversation with RBC Micro-Business Award Winner, Nadine Bernard.

This year Nadine Bernard, founder of Indigevisor was the recipient of the RBC Micro-Business Award at the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Award Ceremony!

This award is not only a personal milestone but a testament to the transformative impact of her work. “It was an incredibly emotional and impactful moment,” Nadine reflects. “Acknowledging all the hard work and determination I’ve put in and sharing this recognition with my team members and having my family there made it even more special. It was amazing for them to see our collective efforts being celebrated.”

At the heart of her success is Indigevisor LTD, a nationally recognized, First Nations-owned advisory corporation dedicated to advancing reconciliation through meaningful collaboration between the corporate world and Indigenous communities. With a foundation in matriarchal traditions and leadership by Indigenous women, the organization prioritizes cultural respect, strategic partnerships, and equity in business practices. Specializing in culturally respectful community engagement, helping clients develop strategic and equitable partnerships that enhance business practices and improve the quality of life for Indigenous Peoples.

“Indigevisor integrates respect, wisdom, and humility into every project,” Nadine explains. “We challenge colonial frameworks and encourage our partners to do the same, ensuring Indigenous values are celebrated and embedded in daily business operations. We are committed to supporting initiatives that promote equity and create meaningful change.”

Winning the RBC Micro-Business Award held deep personal and professional meaning for Nadine. “Personally, it affirmed that I’m on the right path and provided a sense of relief from the sacrifices I’ve made to grow my business. Professionally, the award reinforced the “why” behind Indigevisor’s work and the importance of continuing it. I also feel that the award resonated with many attendees, as many have reached out to continue the conversation about Economic Reconciliation.” Nadine shares.

The journey to the award was marked by significant achievements. After being nominated for the same award last year but falling short, Indigevisor took the experience as a learning opportunity.

“We tracked our changes and achievements using last year’s application, and the progress was immense. The growth Indigevisor showed during this one-year time period was exponential, and we are honoured to have won the award this year.” Nadine explains. “We expanded into new sectors, including mining, oil, gas, defense, and regions beyond Atlantic Canada.”

The past year also brought personal accomplishments, with Nadine being named one of the top 25 most powerful women in Atlantic Canada. These milestones culminated in the well-deserved recognition at this year’s RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards.

The pandemic posed unique challenges for small businesses, but Nadine credits programs like the CWB Mastermind offering for providing crucial support.

“Participating in CWBs Mastermind offering gave me a well-rounded perspective on key areas like finance, HR, strategic planning, and essential aspects of running and leading a successful business.” Additionally, Nadine says, “the ability to join remotely during a time when travel wasn’t possible was invaluable, especially during such a challenging period for new businesses, the program offered much-needed support and guidance.”

As Nadine reflects on her journey, she emphasizes the importance of focusing on Business and Reconciliation.

“This approach is essential to benefiting the economy, it involves having the difficult conversations and co-creating plans for the future. Only through this commitment can we achieve successful reconciliation and foster growth for everyone involved.”

With the RBC Micro-Business Award as a testament of her success, Nadine continues to inspire others through her vision, determination, and unwavering commitment to creating a more equitable and inclusive future.
